1. X/Pearl

X puts all the right elements of bad slasher movies in a stylish and well-paced piece. And there is also a little but significant twist to the genre that makes it even cooler. Peal, in turn, is a beautiful movie, full of colors and fantasy moments that come out of the character’s imagination. Mia Goth is amazing in both!

In the name of Goth

2. Nope

Great visuals and a sense of dread throughout this one. I also love the fact that they don’t explain everything. It makes it all much creepy!

We gonna need a bigger camera

3. Barbarian

I loved this movie, and its structure, with changing POVs and all the tension. It made me think of Kevin Smith’s best attempts at horror, maybe because of Justin Long.

Don’t go there/Don’t go back/Don’t!

4. Crimes of the future

A fully realized world where humans need to let go of old habits, like eating food. Engaging, odd and mysterious, that’s good Cronenberg for you in case you were missing it.

And some 90s vibes!

5. Something in the dirt

Something in the dirty has that clever little juxtaposition of reality and fiction, fantasy and fact, mixing up genres and going for that extra twist of the screw.

Dude be tripping

6. Prey

It’s amazing how close it is to its source material and, at the same time, so fresh. Great lead, fantastic action, and the predator is scary again!

He’s behind me, isn’t him?

7. Speak no evil

That was a great movie! Surprising, dark, hypnotic… Great performances by all cast and a subtle screenplay make for an awesome experience.

Just a regular dinner party among friends who want to still your baby!

8. You won’t be alone

A dark folktale with a shapeshifter who at some point becomes Noomi Rapace? Sign me in. Beautiful, poignant, unique.

Rapace is in the weirdest movies — Thank god!

9. Resurrection

Surprisingly weird and neat, this movie is not for the faint of heart. Rebecca Hall gives a mesmerizing performance and Tim Roth is as creepy as he can be. Just watch it!

I love you, Honey Bunny.

10. Fresh

This movie has, well, a fresh perspective on an old subject. Let’s say it’s about the perils of dating. And sexism. And violence against women. And sorority.
